Welcome to Egypt

10-hours from New York, over-night across the pond to Paris take a slight right down to Sicily's Mt. Etna and a gentile left over the Mediterranean, to the unmistakable Nile Delta.  The vibrant green sliced thin to accommodate generations of sons, suddenly, like the edge of a video screen the color turns grey brown and the plane turns, it levels out, and there, on the edge of the brown, the Pyramids appear, looking more realistic than you could have imagined.

There is nothing like a trip to Egypt, third world with great infusions of first, mind boggling history, stacked, piled and aligned with the Nile, the life giving giant, creating an oasis in the midst of an enormous desert.

Arrival at the Oberoi Mena House is like arriving on a movie set, the turn of the century Moroccan style hotel, set among lush tropical palms with a backdrop of the Great Pyramid, too big to believe, sitting on a hill of brown, so close you feel you can touch it, the only reference to size being the young men riding jet black horses with flowing mains, across the hillside.

Prepare to be overwhelmed on every corner, drink lots of mineral water and don't be afraid to ask questions or drive a bargain.  Don't be afraid, tourism is the biggest piece of Egypt's gross national product and they want you here, they will look after you, you are in good hands.  Open your mind, you are at the edge of the beginning of civilization.

See green Cairo, lower distance.

Oberoi Mena House, where else can you go for Great Pyramid Golf?
