Welcome to the Central America Page

Beautiful countries such as Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama are begging to be explored.

Belize of Mayan decent, never really conquered by the Spanish, negotiated by the French and defended by the British, became British Honduras in 1871.  It became an independent nation in 1981.  Belize possesses the second largest barrier reef system in the World, behind Australia.  Diving is a major attraction here with famous places such as Ambergris Cay and The Blue Hole.

Costa Rica is the current gem of Central America.  An ecotourism delight the diversity is astounding.  From the butterflies of the Monteverde Cloud Forest to the fires of Arenal Volcano and on to the arid Pacific desert coast with its nesting turtles, what better way to witness nature's beauty.  This tropical adventure is more affordable than you might think.

Guatemala is relatively new to the world of American tourists but is well aware of some of its assets.  Much of the new hotel construction in Guatemala in the last ten years has been in the part of that country accessible from Belize.  More and more, visitors reach Tikal, the most awe-inspiring Mayan city-state currently developed for visitors, from Belize.

Honduras has also recently been courting American tourists.  Its island of Roatan has actually been doing just that for years with it being a port of call for many small cruise ships.

Panama of course has the canal and there are many cruises through it, mostly when the ships are transferring  from the Caribbean to the Alaska market for summer and back again in the fall.
